Florida QB Grier loses appeal of NCAA suspension for positive drug test

Published Nov. 20, 2015 10:31 p.m. ET

Florida QB Will Grier lost his NCAA drug test appeal and he will not be able to return to action for the Gators until their seventh game of the 2016 season, the school confirmed on Friday.

The Gators' former starting quarterback was hoping to have his 12-month suspension for using a performance-enhancing drug reduced to just the rest of the 2015 season, however the NCAA denied his appeal. The earliest he would be able to return is Oct. 15 against Missouri.

Grier threw for 1,204 yards and 10 TDs against just three INTs and completed 66 percent of his passes for a Gators team that was 6-0 until he was sidelined for testing positive for a banned substance. Grier said he took an over-the-counter supplement without getting approval from the Florida athletic training staff.

Treon Harris has started for Florida (9-1) since Grier's suspension.
