South's free throw lifts Texas A&M-CC over Northwestern St.

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Kareem South scored 19 points, including the game-winning free throw, Elijah Schmidt blocked a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beat Northwestern State 62-61 on Wednesday night.

Emmanuel Toney added 15 points for the Islanders (7-9, 2-1 Southland Conference), who made 12 of 19 free throws.

Toney's 3 put the Islanders up by 10, 43-33, early in the second half, but the Demons scored 13 straight for a 51-46 lead with 10:06 left. The lead traded hands until South's winning free throw with six seconds left and Schmidt blocked DeAndre Love's jumper at the buzzer.

The Demons led 22-14 on John Norvel's 3 but went scoreless for 5:40 while the Islanders pulled ahead with a 15-0 run capped by Toney's jumper and led 31-25 at halftime.

Love scored 10 points for the Demons (6-10, 1-2) and Ishmael Lane scored seven and grabbed nine rebounds.
