The Texas Rangers declined the options on right-handers Scott Feldman and Yoshinori Tateyama Tuesday, making both pitchers free agents.
If the Rangers would have picked up the option on Feldman, they would have owed him $9.25 million for the 2013 season. They opted for a $600,000 buyout.
Feldman won 39 games for the Rangers in his 204 appearances. He was the club’s pitcher of the year after winning 17 games in 2009. This season he bounced between the bullpen and the starting rotation, losing his first six decisions before following that up with six-consecutive victories.
He finished the year 6-11 with a 5.09 ERA.
Tateyama pitched for the Rangers 53 times over parts of the last two seasons, going 3-0 with a 5.75 ERA.
The club also reinstated right-hander Neftali Feliz from the 60-day disabled list and purchased the contract of right-hander Justin Miller.
Feliz underwent Tommy John surgery on Aug. 1 and isn’t expected to be ready to pitch until next summer. Miller is also coming off elbow surgery in April.
