About 700 people were evacuated from the immediate area around Kyle Field, the home of Texas A&M football, according to the university's website.
In addition to the stadium, the evacuation area included the Bright Football Complex, Netum Steed Laboratory, which houses a weight room and training facility, and the Read Building and G. Rollie White Coliseum, which are used for student recreation.
The university issued a "Code Maroon" emergency notification upon learning of the threat and said that the stadium and surrounding buildings and parking lots would be closed for the day.
As of late afternoon Wednesday, no further information about the investigation had been disclosed.
Authorities were notified of the threat about 10:50 a.m., the university reported on its website. The threat was found written on a wall of a "non-academic building" on campus and an investigation was launched immediately.
