You won't believe how bad Manchester United have been away in Europe

Manchester United's struggles in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era haven't gone unnoticed. They've been a punching bag for the better part of three years now, whether David Moyes or Louis van Gaal managed them. Jose Mourinho was supposed to change that, and he very well might. After all, he's about a month into his tenure at Old Trafford and has already given the Red Devils reason for hope, but even he couldn't turn United into a functioning side away from home in Europe.

The Red Devils lost at Feyenoord on Thursday in the Europa League, 1-0, making it four consecutive away matches that they have lost in Europe. They've gone 0-7-1 in their last eight European away contests, a slide that has included the Champions League and Europa League group and knockout stages.

Some of those losses are understandable. After all, few teams win at Bayern Munich. But look at their opponents in all eight of those matches:

• PSV Eindhoven

• CSKA Moscow

• Wolfsburg

• Midtjyland

• Liverpool

• Feyenoord

The last time Manchester United won an away match in Europe was on November 27, 2013. You know, 1,023 days ago. And the next time they get a chance away in Europe won't be until November, nearly three years after their last win.

Mourinho's revolution will take some time. Just because he lost his first away match in Europe with the Red Devils doesn't mean that Man United are doomed or that all of the last eight losses are the same. But it definitely wasn't a good loss and the Red Devils are still waiting to get that elusive European away win. Even if it's just in Europa League.
