Rain turned the field into a swamp and postponed Manchester City/Borussia Monchengladbach

It's been raining in Manchester. Like a lot. And as a result, the field at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach's Champions League clash is basically a giant swamp.

Exhibit A:

It's hard to play soccer when the ball doesn't roll. And that's why they're not going to play it today.

UEFA decided to postpone the match because of the rain on the pitch. They waited for hours and repeatedly tested the field, hoping it would drain and the ball would be able to roll well enough to play, but it didn't happen.

There is no word on when this match will be played now. The last time a Champions League match was postponed came back in 2013, when Juventus and Galatasaray had the match put off due to snow. They ended up playing the match the following day.

Per UEFA rules, a postponed match must be played the following day, on a reserve day or another day set by UEFA.

At least the people in Manchester got a good show via lightning.
