Rio de Janeiro police have indicted U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen on charges of false reporting of a crime, ABC News and Brazil's O Globo report.

This comes after Brazilian police held a news conference on Thursday stating Lochte made up a story that he and U.S. swimming teammates Feigen, Gunnar Bentz, and Jack Conger were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station after a night out in Rio.

U.S Olympic swimmers Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger leave police headquarters on Aug. 18.

Instead, the police claimed that the athletes were drunk and vandalized the gas station bathroom, after which they were questioned by armed guards (one anonymous police official told the Associated Press that the guards pointed the weapons in their direction), paid for the damage and left.

Lochte, 32, is in the United States, while the 26-year-old Feigen has been detained in Brazil while the investigation continued.
