Japan teased the 2020 Summer Olympics with the help of Super Mario

The 2016 Summer Olympics officially wrapped up with the closing ceremonies on Sunday, which means that two weeks of triumph, heartbreak and fabricated stories of armed robbery have come to an end. It also means that eyes now turn from Rio to Tokyo, who will host the 2020 Games.

Tokyo did a pretty great job of getting everyone excited for that when, at the end of Sunday's ceremony, they used Super Mario to take the baton from Brazil. Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe briefly took form as the classic video game character (created in Japan) in a cool bit of visual trickery that helped preview 2020.

Maybe this means we'll finally be able to put an end to those creepy Olympics mascots and just use Mario & friends in 2020.
