St. Louis Blues Morning Links: Texas Tea In Town

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:52 p.m. ET

Good morning Blues fans! It’s gameday and another chance to rid ourselves of that nasty taste in our mouths left from the Chicago game. Perhaps some oil will wash it out.

The St. Louis Blues take on the Edmonton Oilers in St. Louis tonight. It will be the first time the Blues fans get to see Connor McDavid this season.

It’s not the first time he’s ever played at the Scottrade Center. In fact, the young phenom began his NHL career in St. Louis.

His first official NHL game was in St. Louis and the Blues won 3-1. Injuries kept him out of some of the following games.

So, in a sense, this is the first time many will be able to see McDavid in full force. He is not a wide-eyed rookie any more and he is fully fit.

McDavid is proving to be so good in his second year, he currently leads the league in assists and points. Pretty impressive for a guy that has not hit 20 years old yet.

Taking the focus away from just McDavid, the Oilers have been a far more consistent team than the Blues this season. That does not mean better, but just more consistent.

While the Blues dominate at home, they are anything but on the road. The Oilers come into tonight with eight wins on the road and eight at home.  They also have a win over St. Louis already under their belt.

Edmonton is also coming off a win in their last game. While the Blues were foolishly trying to win a shootout with Chicago, Edmonton took down the Lightning 3-2.

Now it comes down to who wins out. Despite their poor defensive showing against Chicago, the Blues continue to show they can out perform just about anyone at home.

Can they keep that going and keep Edmonton’s offense at bay? Can they let Jake Allen see the puck and maybe even give him a little help?

We will see tonight. It should be an exciting game. Let’s all hope the Blues did not use up all their scoring in the loss last week.

The Blues fully acknowledged their shortcomings following the Chicago game. The problem might be there is no time to work on any of those issues with the current condensed schedule. So, the team is trying on the fly right now. (STLToday)

Those that either did not score tickets or might have to work need fear no longer about missing out on the Winter Classic Alumni game. Whether the NHL softened their stance or Fox Sports simply flashed enough cash, Fox Sports Midwest will be carrying the game after all. (Post-Dispatch)

The Edmonton Oilers made some changes to their lineup prior to their win over Tampa. While you can never point to one change as the official reason they won, it is safe to say the changes helped. (Oil on Whyte)

As fans of the game and the Blues, we are all excited about the Winter Classic finally arriving in our city. The event is really just the culmination of a lot of effort being put in by the organization along the way. (NHL)

When Corey Crawford initially went out due to an emergency appendectomy, it was unclear if he would be fit to play in the Winter Classic. Now that looks pretty sure as he is likely to play by the end of this week. (ESPN)

Have a great day Blues fans!
