The Boston Bruins Have Announced the Signing of Depth Defenseman Tommy Cross on Wednesday Afternoon.

The Boston Bruins have announced the signing of defenseman Tommy Cross on Wednesday, the deal is a one-year two-way contract worth $650,000 at the NHL level. The 27-year-old Cross played in a single playoff game last season scoring a single assist in that game, which isn't too bad. During the 2015-16 season, Cross appeared in three games putting up one assist and a plus/minus rating of minus-one.

Cross has spent most of his pro career down in the AHL in Providence, and last year he set career highs in goals, assists, and points with 12-23 for a total of 35. He also set a very solid plus/minus rating of plus 18. When Providence appeared in the Calder Cup playoffs Cross played in 16 games putting up nine points.

Cross was initially drafted in 2007 by the Bruins in the second round 35th overall. He has great size at 6'3" and 205 pounds. With the youth taking over the blueline in Boston, Cross could very well see some solid ice time next season. If not he'll be able to shine and improve his game even further back down in the AHL.

Now with the signing of Cross, this opens the door for Vegas to select someone like Adam McQuaid in the upcoming expansion draft allowing them to keep someone like Colin Miller or Kevan Miller.
