Tom Brady, Reggie Wayne make oldest QB-WR duo in NFL

Reggie Wayne and the New England Patriots have come to terms on a one-year deal, and pairing the 36-year-old Wayne with 38-year-old quarterback Tom Brady makes them the oldest quarterback/wide receiver combination currently in the NFL.

The only quarterback older than Brady is Denver Broncos gunslinger Peyton Manning, who turned 39 in March. Wayne is the oldest receiver currently active, while Baltimore Ravens wideout Steve Smith Sr., 35, sits next in line.

Between Brady and Wayne - who entered the league in 2000 and 2001, respectively - they have produced quite the combination of incredible stats, including 16 Pro Bowls and eight appearances in the Super Bowl. Wayne has one Super Bowl ring, while Brady has four pieces of bling.

Here’s a little peek at some past action where Wayne scores the game-winning touchdown, beating Brady and Patriots in the AFC title matchup in 2010.

Brady boasts 29 postseason appearances to Wayne’s 21, which included January’s famous “Deflategate” conference championship where the Patriots romped the Colts 45-7. During that game, Wayne was targeted only twice by quarterback Andrew Luck, and he missed both passes. Perhaps the Patriots meet up with Wayne’s former team this postseason to duke it out for the AFC crown.

During the course Brady’s brilliant career, he has totaled 53,258 yards and 392 touchdowns. In Wayne’s 14 years with Indianapolis, he recorded 1,070 receptions for 14,346 yards and 82 scores. Both players have earned their place among the best of their positions throughout their careers.

We’ll see if Wayne, who has dealt with multiple injuries recently, adds any value to New England’s receiving unit.
