Titans corner Jason McCourty will wear 'My Cause' cleats despite NFL's warning

The NFL schedule apparently won’t keep at least one Tennessee Titans player from participating in the league’s “My Cause My Cleats” program.

The Titans, who are coming off their bye week, were not granted permission to wear the custom cleats when they face the Broncos on Sunday, but cornerback Jason McCourty isn’t heeding the NFL’s warning.

"I believe you should be [allowed], so I'll be wearing mine for the game," McCourty said, via ESPN, of his custom cleats, which will promote MADD and Delanie Walker Gives Back.

The league allows players to wear custom cleats during pregame warmups but not during games. The NFL made an exception for Week 13, as long as the cleats promoted an approved cause.

"... There are a lot of things I guess they should or shouldn't do. It's just one of those things where it is what it is. I guess at some point there were going to be two teams at any given week that wouldn't be playing, so you kind of get screwed in that sense. That just happened to be us."

NFL senior vice president of communications Natalie Ravitz responded to the controversy, saying that the Titans and Browns will be able to participate in the initiative.
