Michael Bennett compares Pete Carroll to Willy Wonka

There are more than a few people who are surprised when they learn that Pete Carroll is one of the oldest coaches in the NFL. Let’s face it — the guy runs around acting like a frat bro throughout most of the season.

Defensive end Michael Bennett, who is entering his third season playing under Carroll, was recently asked about playing for the 63-year-old during an interview with 750 The Game in Portland.

“It’s like playing for Willy Wonka,” Bennett said, per Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “He’s crazy. He wants to be young. He just is one of those guys who’s always up beat, wants to have a good time, and lets you be yourself.”

Host John Canzano then noted that Bennett doesn’t seem like the type of guy who could play for someone who is uptight. Bennett took that opportunity to rip former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano.

“I did that before. It wasn’t fun. His name is Greg Schiano,” Bennett explained. “I think you lose guys like that. Guys are their own men. To a coach (like that), his whole life is football … A player, he tries to distance himself from football (in his off time), you know?”

Carroll is always playing pranks on his players and loves to keep things loose. Nothing sums up his personality better than one of our absolute favorite GIFs of all time.

Bennett, who is currently holding out for a new contract, also loves to have a good time. We saw that when he started riding a bicycle around the field after the Seahawks’ incredible comeback in the NFC Championship Game.

Bennett and Wonka are a match made in heaven.
