Saints injury report update: Terron Armstead out vs. Falcons

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Good news and bad news out of Saints camp on Saturday. Terron Armstead is out, Snead and Vaccaro look likely.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – SEPTEMBER 18: Terron Armstead

Saints starting left tackle Terron Armstead seems to have been playing hurt in both games so far this season. He’s had a nagging knee injury but has played through it even admirably. But it appears to have caught up with him.

Armstead has sat out the last three practices, and it was announced late Saturday that he is out for Monday Night’s matchup with the Atlanta Falcons in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

It’s being speculated in the media that Andrus Peat will be swinging over to cover left tackle and back up Senio Kelemete will be taking Peat’s place at left guard. But the Saints did bring tackle Tony Hills back onto the team following the placement of P.J. Williams on season ending injured reserve. Hills is familiar with the playbook so it will be interesting to see how the Saints play that situation.

Willie Snead and Kenny Vaccaro were listed as questionable but both had limited participation in practice Saturday. Snead claimed his toe injury wasn’t severe, and it would be a game time decision as to whether or not he’d play on Monday.

Vaccaro’s ankle injury seems to be okay. It’s likely we’ll see both in action against the Dirty Birds.

Defensive end Cam Jordan was also listed as questionable but nothing concrete has been reported on what’s wrong with him.

Dannell Ellerbe, Josh Hill and Tyeler Davison are all listed as questionable but will likely be ruled out by game time. Ellerbe will be replaced by Craig Robertson, which is okay since Robertson is practically the Black and Gold defensive MVP to date. Chris Manhertz will be active in place of Josh Hill, and John Jenkins and David Onyemata will cover for Davison.

Certainly the news on Armstead is the big story here. He’s the best player on the Saints offensive line and his loss will be felt. Hopefully Peat and Hills can pick up the slack and Kelemete grades out better than he has been in limited action.
