Saints reportedly might shop WR Brandin Cooks in offseason

The New Orleans Saints have the top passing offense in the NFL, averaging a league-high 319 yards per game to go along with 31 touchdowns through the air. Yet, despite the fact that they throw the ball more than 30 other teams, Brandin Cooks isn’t seeing the targets he’d like to.

After last week’s zero-target, zero-reception game, Cooks expressed his frustration with his lack of attention on offense.

"It's one of those things, as a competitor, I was frustrated. But at the same time, our offense was moving the ball and we won the game, so that was the bright side of it," Cooks said. "I'm just thinking from a competition standpoint, I always want to help, I feel like, and I necessarily didn't that game.”

As it turns out, Cooks could be on the move in the offseason. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, multiple teams believe Cooks will be available in a trade after the season ends.

Cooks has been relatively productive this season, catching 51 passes for 736 yards and six touchdowns. After last season’s 84-catch, 1,138-yard campaign, however, his numbers look a bit disappointing – especially considering 98 of his 736 yards came on one play.

He hasn’t been the dominant player the Saints expected him to be this season, but his speed and quickness are assets every team would covet. The Patriots, apparently, were one of them. Schefter reports that some believed a trade was being discussed that would have sent Cooks to the Patriots for Jamie Collins.
