Colts set to shuffle line with LT Castonzo out

The Indianapolis Colts, who were already dealing with one significant injury with quarterback Andrew Luck out of the lineup after suffering a lacerated kidney, now must contend with the absence of left tackle Anthony Castonzo.

The 27-year-old Castonzo, who sprained his MCL late in last Sunday's 24-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons, has started 66 consecutive games for the Colts, dating back to his rookie season in 2011. That streak will come to an end this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Castonzo's injury prompted the team shirt right tackle Joe Reitz to left tackle for the final three snaps against the Falcons. Reitz is the likely starter at left tackle for this week's game with Castonzo is considered "week-to-week" with the knee injury.

Head coach Chuck Pagano indicated he has full confidence in the versatile Reitz.

"He’s played really well,” Pagano said of Reitz, per the team's official website. “He’s smart, he’s tough and he loves playing. Plays with a ton of energy and passion. He’s our emergency, emergency, emergency center, if you will, if we ever got to an Armageddon type of scenario. He can play guard, he can play tackle and now he might have to go over and play the other side.”

If Reitz plays left tackle, it's likely to mean another start at right tackle for Jack Mewhort, who moved over from left guard after Castonzo left last week's game. Mewhort began the season at tackle, but has started the last eight games at guard as part of changes the Colts made with the line struggling early in the season.

Veteran Lance Louis, who started two games before benched as part of the same series of early-season moves that saw Mewhort switch positions, took over at left guard against the Flacons and remains an option to start again this week.

The 5-5 Colts are tied for first place in the AFC South with the Houston Texans.
