Colts' running backs make big contribution in passing game

Published Nov. 23, 2015 12:32 p.m. ET

With the running game not producing results, the Indianapolis Colts turned to running backs Frank Gore and Ahmad Bradshaw for their pass-catching skills Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Both responded, with Gore leading the team in receptions, while Bradshaw caught a pair of touchdown catches in the red zone to help the Colts to a 24-21 victory.

The duo managed just 66 yards combined on the ground going up against the Falcons' top-rated run defense, but were able contribute catching passes out of the backfield. The pair combined for nine receptions for 66 yards in the win.

Bradshaw caught touchdowns of two and seven yards as part of his four-catch, 20-yard day. Gore caught a team-high five passes for 46 yards.

“I can’t imagine having to tackle those guys,” Indianapolis quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said, per the team's official website. “They are tough. They are hard-nosed and have the respect of everybody in the locker room. Today we needed them in the running game and we needed them in the passing game as well."

Bradshaw, who re-joined the Colts in October, has three receiving touchdowns in five games this year after catching six scores last season.
