Are skirmishing Packers losing their cool?

The Packers are known for being a buttoned-down, harmonious bunch – six straight playoff appearances will have that effect – but things got a little chippy on their sideline Sunday in the team’s second straight loss after a 6-0 start to the season.

After Carolina rolled through the Green Bay defense on a five-play, 74-yard third-quarter drive, Green Bay safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix approached linebacker Julius Peppers, who was seated on the bench. Clinton Dix was visibly upset at Peppers about something – FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews later said Peppers had been chirping at the defensive backs during that previous drive – and words were exchanged before nose tackle B.J. Raji intervened and shoved Clinton-Dix.

The frustration could be mounting for a Green Bay defense that was strong early in the season but entered the Carolina game having allowed at least 500 yards in back-to-back games and didn’t play much better Sunday.

Cooler heads prevailed after the Packers nearly came back from a 37-14 fourth-quarter deficit in their 37-29 loss, with players telling reporters that football is an emotional game and that the matter will be handled internally. That sounded much more like the Packers we know, as did Clinton-Dix's apology on Twitter.
