Mariners fan and cop both fail to wrestle home run ball from netting

Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez mashed a huge dinger against the Mariners' Wade LeBlanc on Tuesday night, sending a monster shot 455 feet into the Seattle night sky. When the ball came down, it landed just above the scoreboard in left-center field and one excited fan seated atop the structure thought he was going to get himself a souvenir.

Unfortunately for that poor Mariners fan, the baseball ended up getting tangled in the protective netting over the scoreboard. The dude desperately attempted to pry the ball loose for a few minutes before a ballpark cop came over and told him to knock it off.

Then, the police officer himself gave it the ol' college try. After a quick struggle with the tangled ball, the cop assessed the situation and decided he had better things to do and told the fan to leave it be.

It's often difficult to understand the lengths grown adults go to to get their hands on souvenir baseballs, but it's hard not to feel a little bad for this dude in the Ken Griffey Jr. jersey. The chances of a home run ball coming directly to you are very slim, especially when you're seated 455 feet away. Not only did this guy fail to capitalize on the rare opportunity, but he also presumably had to watch the rest of the game with the trapped ball torturing him and laughing at him from just a few feet away.
