Marlins extend spring training invitations

The Marlins have extended spring training invitations to 31 non-roster players.

The Miami Marlins have invited 31-non roster players to spring training, the team announced Monday.

Miami has signed 17 players to minor league free-agent contracts with invitations to spring training: right-handed pitchers Jonathan Albaladejo, John Maine, Doug Mathis, Chad Qualls, Kevin Slowey, Jordan Smith, Mitch Talbot and Michael Wuertz; left-handed pitcher Zach Phillips; catcher Craig Tatum; infielders Matt Downs, Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ed Lucas and Chris Valaika; and outfielders Jordan Brown and Austin Kearns.

Fourteen players from Miami's minor league system were also invited: right-handed pitchers Michael Brady and Jose Fernandez; left-handed pitchers Adam Conley, Grant Dayton, Brian Flynn, Andrew Heaney and Raudel Lazo; catchers Wilfredo Gimenez, Jake Jefferies and Jacob Realmuto; infielders Danny Black and Derek Dietrich; and outfielders Jake Marisnick and Christian Yelich.

The 31 invitations will give the Marlins 71 players at spring training. Pitchers and catchers report for their first workout on Feb. 12, with the first full-squad workout on Feb 15.
