WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) Dickie Hemric, the leading scorer and rebounder in Wake Forest history, has died. He was 83.

School spokesman Steve Kirkland said family members told the school that Hemric died Thursday in Akron, Ohio. No cause of death was given.

Hemric scored 2,587 points and an Atlantic Coast Conference record 1,802 rebounds while playing for the Demon Deacons from 1952-55, winning consecutive ACC player of the year awards in 1954 and '55. The 6-foot-6 power forward averaged 24.9 points and 17.3 rebounds and still holds 10 school records.

He was selected 10th overall by the Boston Celtics in 1955 and won one NBA title with them before retiring in 1957.
