Morehead State hoops coach facing battery charge and head-butting accusation

Morehead State head basketball coach Sean Woods could find himself in even hotter water after the parent of one of his players told ESPN that Woods head-butted his son.

The alleged incident occurred last season and was followed by an immediate apology from Woods, according to Edson Maitland, the father of Malik Maitland. And this isn’t an isolated incident.

Woods was suspended indefinitely by the university on Nov. 22 for the allegedly assaulting Maitland and teammate Soufiyane Diakite during a game on Nov. 19. He was officially charged Tuesday with misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily harm against Woods. From the police report obtained by WKYT in Kentucky:

According to court documents, Malik Maitland told police that Woods backhanded him in the chest during halftime, causing pain.

Soufiyane Diakte told police Woods shoved him twice during the game - once during a timeout and once in the locker room.

Edson Maitland is calling for Morehead State to fire Woods. From the statement he sent to ESPN:

"This is not the first time he violated our trust because last year, during the season, he head-butted my son and turned around and asked him to forgive him, and he apologized, and my son accepted his apology, and [he] said he would never do it again. And as for the school, I'm still waiting for a response from them and to take corrective action and appropriate action without any form of a delay, saying they're still investigating. And as for all the assistants that are there working, I'm appalled, because they are an extension of Coach Woods, and I think the NCAA should step in and take appropriate action."
