Lipscomb beats FGCU; teams now tied atop the Atlantic Sun (Feb 09, 2017)

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) Garrison Mathews had 19 points and Lipscomb beat Florida Gulf Coast 65-60 on Thursday night, moving the Bisons into a first-place tie with the Eagles in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.

Lipscomb (16-11, 8-2) went 9 of 10 from the foul line but missed its final eight field-goal attempts after Eli Pepper's basket with 8:24 left made it 56-47. FGCU (19-7, 8-2) closed the deficit to 61-60 on Marc-Eddy Norelia's basket with 16 seconds left.

Cam Miller and Mathews each hit a pair of free throws from there to help Lipscomb hold on for its fifth straight win.

Norelia had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead FGCU, which won the first meeting with Lipscomb 84-80 on Jan. 14. Brandon Goodwin added 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Nathan Moran scored 13 for Lipscomb, and Josh Williams and Pepper added 10 points each. Pepper also grabbed 10 boards.
