Sean Dougherty-USA TODAY Sports

With March Madness coming up, we’re bringing you a bonus edition of “The Sidelines Podcast.” This week, FS1 college hoops insider Evan Daniels welcomes iconic broadcaster Bill Raftery, who will call the Big East Tournament this week on FS1 and FOX.

Raftery discusses a number of different topics, including the following:

  • Raft’s sudden entry into broadcasting. How he quit coaching at Seton Hall just days before the season started to take his first job in television.
  • His signature catch phrases. Raft gives the origins of ‘Onions’ and also explains why ‘Send it in, Jerome’ has become a cultural phenomenon.
  • What it’s like to work with some of broadcasting’s biggest icons. Raft shares behind the scenes stories on life on the road with Gus Johnson, Jim Nantz, Verne Lundquist and others.

Raftery is the latest big-name guest to appear on “The Sidelines,” as previous guests include some of college basketball’s most iconic names, from Coach K to Roy Williams, Bill Self and Jay Wright.
