Madison Bumgarner did the unthinkable Wednesday night in leading the Giants to their third World Series title in five seasons.

After the game he saw the perfect text message his father, Kevin, sent him before the ninth inning.

The New York Times’ Michael Powell travelled to Hudson, NC, to watch the game with Bumgarner’s dad, and supplied the details of the text:

Bumgarner’s dad sent him the best text before ninth inning of Game 7:

"OMG. You’re so much more than awesome. To see you work on the mound reminds me of watching you in high school. You are willing yourself to perfection and dragging the team along with you. I couldn’t be more proud of your baseball accomplishments."

Here’s why he sent it during the game:

"I knew he wouldn’t read that text before the game was over," Kevin Bumgarner told the Times, "but I wanted him to know this was what his daddy thought of him."

How awesome is that?
