Former Diamondbacks broadcaster and 2014 Buck O’Neil Award recipient Joe Garagiola Sr. will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the D-backs’ 2014 Chase Field opener on Monday at 6:40 p.m. against the Giants. Garagiola will be assisted by little leaguers from the D-backs Give Back Jersey Program in one of the highlights of Opening Day festivities.
The Diamondbacks also will host their first-ever webcast pregame show live from the field starting at 3 p.m. The online show will be streamed live on www.dbacks.com and will feature exclusive content, including player interviews and live batting practice until 5:30 p.m. when the FOX Sports Arizona pregame show begins.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the Opening Day Street Festival. The festival will begin at 3 p.m. in front of the Gila River Casinos Plaza along 4th Street and Jackson and will feature food trucks, D-backs inflatables and various other activities, including a performance by Mesa-based band Murrieta at 5 p.m. Game Seven Grill will open at noon for fans to enjoy live grilling and outdoor seating as well as an expanded second story.
As fans enter the stadium, D-backs staff will hand out 50,000 2014 Diamondbacks magnet schedules, courtesy of Pepsi.
Prior to first pitch, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and outfielder Gerardo Parra will receive their 2013 Rawlings Gold Gloves during a special pregame ceremony on the field. Goldschmidt also will be presented with the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award, Hank Aaron Award and Mel Ott Award for his superlative 2013 season.
The national anthem will be performed by American Idol finalist Angie Miller.
