Before his second season in Tempe even begins, Todd Graham is taking the Sun Devils into uncharted territory.
Arizona State reportedly landed the verbal commitment of 14-year-old Texas linebacker Loren Mondy, the youngest prospect to ever commit to ASU.
ASUDevils.com reports Mondy, who hasn’t yet started high school, visited ASU on Sunday and gave Graham his commitment after receiving the Sun Devils’ offer. Mondy, 6-foot-1 and 233 pounds, will be a freshman at Mansfield Lake Ridge High School this fall and first met ASU coaches at a camp the coaches held recently at Sam Houston State in Texas.
According to the report, Mondy’s father, Michael Mondy, played for Graham in high school and at East Central University, where Graham was defensive coordinator from 1991-1993. Mondy is apparently being recruited to play ASU’s hybrid defensive line/linebacker position, “Devil backer.”
Young recruits can be fickle, and Mondy would not arrive at ASU until 2017. Many circumstances could certainly change by then, but Mondy tells ASUDevils.com he is solid in his commitment to ASU.
“I only need one school that I really like really,” Mondy told the site. “If I find one school that is a good fit that’s all I need and that’s what I found.”
