Outfielders Ender Inciarte and David Peralta and right-hander Chase Anderson are steadily climbing the NL rookie leader boards. Inciarte (83) and Peralta (82) rank 3-4 in hits among rookies, and they could soon pass St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong (84). Peralta leads all rookies with eight triples and Anderson leads with eight victories. Inciarte has 10 outfield assists and according to FanGraphs his 2.0 WAR ranks second in the NL to Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton.

Trevor Cahill, who usually pitches well in his home town, and Wade Miley will attempt to follow the standard set by Josh Collmenter, Vidal Nuno and Chase Anderson over the weekend. Collmenter, Nuno and Anderson each went at least six innings and did not walk a batter against Colorado; Nuno went eight. It was only the second time that happened in franchise history. Elmer Dessens, Brian Anderson and Amaury Telemaco did it from Sept. 2-4, 1998.

Montero on a roll
Unlike some, Miguel Montero does not seem to have any trouble at pitcher-friendly Petco Park. He has three of his 13 home runs against the Padres this season, two at Petco. He took Thursday starter Ian Kennedy deep on May 3 and connected off Eric Stults on June 28. Montero homered on the first pitch he saw from Monday starter Odrisamer Despaigne on the first pitch when the teams played at Chase Field on Aug. 22. The D-backs are 8-4 against the Padres this year.

Late, great Padres
The Padres have shown some recent resilience at home. Their last three victories are extra-inning walkoffs. They put a crimp in the Dodgers' run toward a second straight NL West with walk offs Friday and Saturday -- Yasmani Grandal hit a game-winning single in the 12th inning Friday and Alexi Amarista singled in the winner in the 10th inning Saturday. It all started when catcher Rene Rivera singled in the winner in the 10th inning against Milwaukee on Wednesday.
