T.J. Oshie continues to come through for young girl 'devastated' by trade

It's always difficult to see your favorite player get traded, but earlier this month, 5-year-old Libby Lu broke hearts across the nation when a video of her reaction to the T.J. Oshie trade from the St. Louis Blues to the Washington Capitals went viral. Poor Libby was devastated by the idea that she would no longer be able to root for Oshie since he would be on another team.

Her plight touched many, including Oshie, the object of her distress. So Oshie attempted to lift Libby's spirits on July 5 when he was able to call Libby in a feature on SportsCenter.

A bashful Libby appeared on the show with her father, and when she was asked what she would say to T.J. Oshie if given the chance, she jumped straight to the important issues, asking, "Do you have a swimming pool?"

Oshie reassured Libby on the phone that she could still root for him even though he was on a different team, and he helped Libby with the transition earlier this week when he sent her a care package full of merchandise from his new team as well as an autographed Capitals jersey.

It was a classy act from a player who could have let the goodwill end with the phone call. Of course, Oshie does know how to make little girls smile; he has a young daughter of his own, Lyla Grace, who turned a year old on March 17.
