Blackhawks' Toews takes out frustrations with game-winning goal
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews rarely shows much in the way of emotion, hence the Captain Serious nickname.
Playing in his 600th career contest on Sunday, Toews admitted to reporters that he did his best to hide the fact that he was getting flustered late in regulation. Toews had been thwarted on a point-blank chance by San Jose Sharks goaltender Martin Jones before the crossbar denied a golden opportunity in overtime.
Via the Chicago Tribune:
Toews scored 2:21 into the extra session to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Sharks. The 27-year-old's 11th goal of the season was his third in overtime, tying him with Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau for the league lead.
Toews also matched the franchise record for overtime goals in a season, equaling the mark of Kyle Calder in 2005-06 and Marian Hossa in 2012-13.
"I got frustrated at the end there and I just decided to get (angry) and use the energy the right way. I ended up making it count."
Toews and Kane on a 2-on-1 in OT. Good luck with that. https://t.co/r1g5F3ckou
