Vikings GM: Teddy Bridgewater going to be 'something special'

Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman selected Teddy Bridgewater with the last pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, hoping that he would become the team's franchise quarterback.

Almost two years later, it sounds like Spielman is still pleased with his pick. While speaking with Alex Marvez and Mark Dominik on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday night, he confidently stated that the Vikings believe Bridgewater will be "something special" in the future.

Teddy, he’s just so calm. Through the ups and downs and as he’s growing as a young quarterback, his demeanor never changes. The one thing that I know: He’s always the first one in the building and the last one to leave the building, and that resonates down through that locker room. And all those guys see that.

I think the key to that position is showing your teammates that you’re willing to do everything you can to give them the best chance to win. I know our team and our coaches and myself believe that this kid is going to be something special down the road here.

Bridgewater made his first career Pro Bowl following the 2015 season, after completing 65.3 of his pass attempts for 3,231 yards. He managed a run-heavy offense, throwing 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions en route to Minnesota's first NFC North title since 2009.

In two seasons as the starting quarterback, Bridgewater has led the Vikings to 17 wins. As he grows more comfortable in the offense and his role begins to expand, the promising young passer should deliver his team plenty more victories.
