Should 76ers retire Moses Malone's number?

Published Sep. 15, 2015 12:34 p.m. ET

Moses Malone only played four of his 21 professional seasons with the 76ers, but it was a run that run included four All-Star appearances and Malone's only NBA title.

But for some reason, the team never retired his number.

A list on the team's website includes Hal Greer, Billy Cunningham, David Zinkoff, Bobby Jones, Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Cheeks, Charles Barkley and Allen Iverson.

Now that Malone has passed away, Reddit user azizinator25 wonders if it's time.

It doesn't appear as though anyone has worn Malone's number since he retired 20 years ago, so perhaps it was unofficially taken out of the rotation.

The question at this point doesn't seem to be whether or not the team should retire Malone's jersey. The question is, why hasn't the ceremony already taken place?
