But the homecoming was bittersweet, the family said. Stow's insurance company no longer would pay for his stay at the Centre for Neuroskills in Bakersfield, so the family decided to bring him home to the Santa Cruz area and find ways to help him continue to progress.
Stow, a former paramedic who now requires 24-hour care, "could have benefited greatly by staying at CNS longer," the family said on its website.
"We are so glad to have him home, but, as prepared as we thought we were, it was a difficult transition."
Stow was severely beaten after a game between the Giants and the Dodgers on opening day in 2011.
The beating sparked outrage and brought security changes to Dodger Stadium and ballparks around the country.
Two men were later arrested and charged in connection with the attack.
