Report: Browns QB McCown's season likely over with possible broken collarbone

Published Dec. 1, 2015 10:20 a.m. ET

The Cleveland Browns will have yet another decision to make regarding their starting quarterback as Josh McCown’s season is likely over. Late in Monday night’s insane loss to Baltimore, McCown took a hit from Ravens defensive tackle Brandon Williams that, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, may have led to a broken collarbone.

With Johnny Manziel demoted to third string, Austin Davis replaced McCown with 8:29 left in the game and tied it at 27-all on a 42-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin with 1:47 remaining. The Browns would go on to intercept a Matt Schaub pass on the ensuing drive, but later saw their game-winning field goal attempt blocked and returned for a game-ending touchdown.

“We’ll watch the tape and discuss that (Tuesday),” Browns head coach Mike Pettine said of his starting quarterback situation. “I’m not prepared to answer that just yet.”

The hit sustained by McCown was one of several shots taken by the veteran starting quarterback. If he is finished for the season, he will have put up 2,109 yards (63.7 percent completion), 12 touchdowns and just four interceptions in eight games.
