Who's happiest Mets fan? Matz's grandfather

It used to be that a proud grandparent would flip open the wallet or reach into the purse and out would come a foot-long collection of photos of the grandchildren. These days, though, grandpa and grandma can whip out the cellphone and cue up a video to show off grandkids.

And if you happen to be Steven Matz's gramps, that video will feature yourself in a starring role, too.

Matz debuted on the mound for the New York Mets on Sunday, mostly living up to top-prospect status by going 7 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and two runs and picking up the victory in the Mets' 7-2 win. But it's what Matz did at the plate that was the most noteworthy: 3 for 3 with four RBI.

The four RBI are of particular note. The 24-year-old phenom arm set a club record for the most driven in in a major-league debut -- pitcher OR position player.

Matz certainly had the baseball world buzzing on Sunday, and after his third hit, the television cameras caught the pitcher's grandfather in doing some serious buzzing of his own.

In Yiddish, that would be called kvelling.
