Jones: Romo gives us Super Bowl chance
Jul 30, 2012 at 2:41p ET
Jones wouldn't go quite that far Sunday night, but he did describe how the 32-year-old still remains part of the franchise's long-term plans.
"It is no secret that I believe that our chance to get another one of these rings is with Tony," Jones said on "The Score With Babe Laufenberg" on CBS 11 Sunday night. "We're going to benefit from his maturation. We're going to benefit from his command of the game. You'll see him more involved in our football team with his decision-making then you could ever have imagined four or five years ago. Jason (Garrett) wants it that way, his coaches want it that way.
"He's going to be an important part of this thing. And I have all the hope … based on some firm fact, that Romo's going to give us a chance to be where our fans deserve. We need another Super Bowl."
The Cowboys are 47-30 in games that Romo has started over the last six seasons. However, the three-time Pro Bowl selection is 1-3 in the postseason, throwing for 832 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in those four games.
