Gopher forward Tyler Sheehy has been named one of the top-ten finalists for the 2017 Hobey Baker Award.

The only sophomore on the list, Sheehy is the co-scoring champion of the Big Ten and seventh-highest scorer in the nation. He was just named Big Ten Player of the Year.

The Gophers begin Big Ten tournament play Friday.

This year’s Hobey Baker field, which also includes Bemidji State’s Michael Bitzer, will be narrowed to the three-player Hobey Hat Trick on March 30. The 2017 Hobey Baker Award, recognizing the top men’s hockey player at an American college or university, will be awarded April 17 during the NCAA Frozen Four in Chicago.

The ten finalists were selected by voting from all 60 Division I college hockey head coaches and by online fan balloting. Next, the 27-member Selection Committee and an additional round of fan balloting through the Hobey Baker Award website from March 16-26 will determine this year’s winner.

Criteria for the award include: displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship, and scholastic achievements.
