Report: Kam Chancellor 'strongly considering a camp holdout'

Success is sweet, but it comes with a cost in the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks are feeling the pain of that cost this summer, as contract negotiations and desired contract negotiations have dominated the headlines. Kam Chancellor is now the latest member of the Seahawks who wants more money.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Chancellor is “strongly considering” a camp holdout to get it:

Chancellor is in the third year of a five-year deal -- the one he signed after his rookie contract was redone. He is set to make $4.55 million in base salary and counts as $5.65 million against the cap, making him the 11th-highest paid safety in the NFL.

Most experts would agree that Chancellor is one of the premier strong safeties in the league, and many teams are indeed attempting to copy Seattle’s formula by finding a Chancellor-clone in the draft.

But a new deal is unlikely at this time.

Seattle is currently trying to tie up linebacker Bobby Wagner with a long-term contract, Russell Wilson is seeking a huge guarantee-laden contract and defensive end Michael Bennett also wants more money.

Considering Chancellor still has three years left on his current contract, and considering the many other pressing contractual issues facing the Seahawks, it’s unlikely the bone-crushing safety will get what he wants this summer.
