Jones leads UTEP in rout of Florida International

Nathan Jeffery stepped up in place of injured
top rusher Aaron Jones to run for 130 yards and two touchdowns as UTEP
rolled past Florida International 33-10 on Saturday night in El Paso,
Texas.

Jeffery got a season-high 25
carries as the Miners (2-8, 1-5 Conference USA) played their first game
since losing Jones for the season. Jones is one of the nation’s leading
rushers among freshmen with 811 yards but suffered broken ribs in last
week’s loss at North Texas.

It was the
first 100-yard game since last November for Jeffery, a junior who was
the team’s top rusher last year before losing the lead role to Jones
this season.

Blaire Sullivan contributed
104 yards rushing and Autrey Jones added 56 for UTEP, which recorded its
first home victory since beating Tulane on Oct. 20, 2012.

Lamarq Caldwell ran for 95 yards for FIU (1-9, 1-5), which was held to 200 total yards en route to its fifth straight loss.
