John Tavares had a goal and assist in the second period, shortly after being struck in the head with a puck, and Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves as the New York Islanders beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-1 on Tuesday night.
Matt Moulson had two goals, and Kyle Okposo and Michael Grabner also scored for the Islanders.
Justin Abdelkader spoiled Nabokov's shutout bid 2:36 into the third when he pulled the Red Wings to 4-1. Ty Conklin stopped 25 shots for Detroit, which was without leading-scorer Pavel Datsyuk, who sat out due to an undisclosed lower body injury.
