Flyers sign D MacDonald to multiyear contract extension

Just prior to opening their playoff run, the Philadelphia Flyers have signed a multiyear contract extension with defenseman Andrew MacDonald. 

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the New Jersey Courier Post is reporting it's a 6-year, $30 million deal.

MacDonald was acquired from the New York Islanders before the trade deadline on March 4. Since joining the team, he has four assists in 19 games.

MacDonald, 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, led all NHL players in blocked shots this season with 242. He was one of three players in the NHL with more than 200 blocks. 

MacDonald finished the season with four goals and 24 assists for 28 points in 82 games between the Islanders and Flyers. The Flyers open the playoffs against the New York Rangers on Thursday.
