Alexandre Burrows on temporary leave from Canucks for personal reasons

Published Nov. 16, 2015 2:17 p.m. ET

Could it be another NHL baby? Alexandre Burrows left the Canucks for what the team called personal reasons, although rumor on Twitter has it that Burrows' wife just had a baby.

"He went back, and it's a good thing, so he's just back with his family," Vancouver coach Willie Desjardins confirmed to reporters Sunday when asked about Burrows.

Vancouver is in the midst of a seven-game road trip and will play in Montreal on Monday night, but Burrows will not be in the lineup. That means rookie Hunter Shinkaruk will make his NHL debut for the Canucks, as he was called up by the team over the weekend.

Shinkaruk is playing very well at the AHL level, posting 10 goals and three assists through 12 games for the Utica Comets. The 21-year-old was selected in the first round (24th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
