Jim Caldwell's simple question led to Lions' rare win at Lambeau
After 23 consecutive losses at Lambeau Field, the Detroit Lions shocked the Green Bay Packers with an 18-16 win on the road last Sunday. For a struggling Lions team, it was an emotional victory over a divisional powerhouse.
Detroit's motivation to beat the Packers came from a simple question posed by head coach Jim Caldwell, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.
"Why not us?"
The message Caldwell was trying to convey must have resonated with his team, as the Lions played inspired football in Week 10.
"Coach Caldwell said it best and said it real, real, real simple," Lions wide receiver Golden Tate said, per ESPN. "'Why not us?' Just, why not us go out there and win? No doubt that this is going to be a tough game. No doubt that we’re going to go through things, but why not us?"
The Packers enjoyed nearly a quarter-century of dominance over the Lions at home, but this year's players bought into Caldwell's suggestion that they could be the squad to end the streak. The unexpected outcome of this game will be one both fanbases remember for quite some time.
