Dolphins' Damien Williams appears locked in as No. 2 RB in Miami

Running back Damien Williams entered Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears as the likely No. 2 running back, but he hadn't yet solidified it.

Needless to say, he did just that after Miami's preseason opener. Williams was slated ahead of LaMichael James on the depth chart prior to the game, and although Williams didn't play particularly great, he was much more involved in the offense than James was.

Williams carried the ball seven times for 20 yards and also caught two passes (four targets) for 28 yards. James, on the other hand, carried it just five times for 13 yards while catching just one pass. James was expected to be the dynamic pass catcher out of the backfield, but that was hardly the case on Thursday.

When the Dolphins made their way into the red zone, Williams took over for Miller and received a goal-line carry with the first-team offense.

The running back battle isn't necessarily over just yet, but it appears as if James' best chance to make an impact will be on punt and kickoff returns. Rookie Jay Ajayi, the No. 4 running back, is still recovering from injury, and figures to play a big role in the backfield, as well.
