Demand for Niners' tickets drops significantly from 2014

Following an 8-8 season, the 49ers went through a number of roster changes in the offseason. Jim Tomsula replaced Jim Harbaugh. Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, Justin Smith and Anthony Davis all retired. Long-time 49ers running back Frank Gore signed in Indianapolis.

As such, the demand for tickets dropped nearly 30 percent from 2014, per TicketNetwork's study on NFL ticket pricing. However, there could be a number of other reasons for the change, according to JP Starkey, Sports Specialist at

"Other factors can also explain the discrepancy in ticket demand between 2014 and 2015," Starkey said. "The Niners opened Levi's Stadium last season, and fans flocked to it -- which happens every time a new stadium opens. 2015 appears to provide fans with a much more affordable chance to watch the Niners at home, now that the stadium is in its second year."

The average ticket price for 49ers games ranks fifth among all NFC squads at $209. The top four include the Seattle Seahawks ($314), Green Bay Packers ($310), Chicago Bears ($244) and New Orleans Saints ($239).
