C.J. McCollum was essentially Wesley Matthews' backup on the Portland Trail Blazers last season. The second-year combo guard entered games looking to get his own shot and score in bunches, but he wasn't nearly as capable on the defensive end, or quite as deadly as a high-volume spot-up three-point threat.
Now Matthews is gone, and McCollum's role in Portland has grown. On the surface, that's their entire professional relationship. But early Friday morning, McCollum fired a shot at his ex-teammate by tweeting cry-face emojis over a video of Matthews getting embarrassed by Los Angeles Clippers guard Jamal Crawford.
There's a decent chance McCollum had no malicious intentions with this tweet. It might be one friend teasing another. Or maybe they don't like each other. For now, it's a mystery.
