Report: Teams seeking Reds flame-throwing reliever Aroldis Chapman

Published Jul. 25, 2015 9:24 a.m. ET

Reds starting pitcher Jose Cueto is expected to be moved before baseball's trade deadline, but Cincinnati also possesses the league's most sought-after reliever, Aroldis Chapman.

Whether the Reds actually want to move Chapman is up for debate. According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, one league executive deemed the Reds' price tag for Chapman as "exorbitant."

It's clear why contending teams in need of late-inning relief will be lining up for a shot to nab the 6-foot-4 Cuban closer, who has saved 19 of his 20 opportunities. The hard-throwing lefty owns a 1.74 ERA and has struck out 74 batters in 41.1 innings.

But the Reds aren't going to part with Chapman without bringing back substantial talent.

"We've been talking with a lot of different people," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty told MLB.com. "But we haven't been receiving offers that have us wanting to commit."
