Giants rookie dedicates first hit to fallen batboy
After San Francisco Giants rookie Kelby Tomlinson got his first hit this week, he dedicated it to someone else who'd just been "called up."
That someone was Kaiser Carlile, the 9-year-old batboy for the Liberal Bee Jays, a collegiate summer-league team from Kansas. Kaiser died Sunday, a day after being accidentally struck in the helmet by a bat swung by an on-deck hitter.
Tomlinson, who led the Liberal Bee Jays to the 2010 National Baseball Congress World Series championship, paid tribute to Kaiser in a video posted on Facebook. The video showed Tomlinson get his first hit, then cut to him after the game.
"From one Bee Jay to another ... this one's for you," Tomlinson said.
