Impact Kidney will be eligible for unrestricted free agency Wednesday. He played in the AHL with Belleville and Laval during the 2025-26 regular season, earning three assists in 11 appearances between the two teams. He also had 11 goals and 33 points in 46 games for ECHL Trois-Rivieres during the 2025-26 regular season, along with two goals and one assist in four playoff outings for ECHL Allen.

Involved in trade Kidney was acquired by Ottawa from Montreal on Friday in exchange for Hunter Shepard and Jake Chiasson.

Impact Kidney has 11 goals and 33 points in 46 outings with ECHL Trois-Rivieres in 2025-26. He also has an assist in six appearances with AHL Laval this season. Spending most of the campaign in the ECHL doesn't bode well for the 22-year-old's chances of eventually playing in the NHL, but he was originally taken relatively high (No. 63 overall) by Montreal in the 2021 NHL Draft. Perhaps getting a fresh start in Ottawa's minor-league system will benefit Kidney.

Impact Kidney, who opened the season with Acadie-Bathurst before joining the Olympiques, is the seventh-ranked scorer in the circuit. A 2021 second-round pick of Montreal, Kidney is known as a playmaker, ranking fourth in assists this season after landing atop the QMJHL in 2021-22 with 70 helpers.
