Top rookie CBs Peters, Nelson finally rejoin the Chiefs

The Chiefs had to wait before their top two rookie cornerbacks could suit up in red and gold.

It finally happened on Monday. First-round pick Marcus Peters and third-round pick Steven Nelson made their much-awaited Chiefs debut at Kansas City's minicamp.

Per NFL rules, the two PAC-12 products had to wait until classes let out before they could practice. It's the same rule that kept De'Anthony Thomas from practicing early on last season.

Peters and Nelson are now 10 practices behind their rookie counterparts. Peters, the 18th pick overall, will have to play catch up to earn a spot in Kansas City's starting lineup.

Head coach Andy Reid is looking forward to that competition now that his rookie class is at full strength.

"It will be good to get the two young guys, the corners (Peters and Nelson) here," Reid told the team's official website. "They have a lot of work ahead of them."
